Chickens

We offer chicks and occasionally pullets for sale. We mostly breed black, lavender and cuckoo colour Araucanas. We often sell out in Summer or early Autumn and rarely have pullets available during winter.

Our pricing of pullets is based upon how closely the bird resembles the Australian Araucana Breed standard. Backyard layer quality chickens will be less expensive than chickens that more closely match the Araucana breed standards, which will be suitable for breeding from.

We offer a rooster return policy for unsexed chicks: If you cannot keep a chick that turns out to be a rooster, you may return that chicken to us (however there is no refunds for chicks sold as unsexed). Araucanas are notoriously difficult to sex, so expect to wait until they are 13+ weeks to be certain.

We occasionally have sex-linked chicks for sale. These are priced at $20 per chick and are guaranteed to be female, based on a colour sex-link cross - Cuckoo (barred) hen x non-barred rooster.

Olive Egg laying chickens are offered as a Marans hen x Araucana rooster (or we can supply fertile olive eggs, which are a 3/4 Araucana, 1/4 Marans). Marans are known for laying dark brown eggs, which creates an olive egg laying hen when crossed with the Araucana blue gene. We no longer offer purebred Marans.
